The Problem
In an imagined scenario, Golden Gate Park has found that it is attracting fewer younger adults than expected with its new line of live events. They want to find ways to communicate their new push for engagement within the park to this group in an effective way.
The Solution
The purpose of this event poster is to engage and captivate a younger audience with an exciting design that reflects the essence of San Francisco. By utilizing a unique grid structure, information hierarchy, and eclectic color and typesetting techniques, the poster evokes a sense of connection to the local culture in a single glance.

Key Learnings
Through the use of a robust grid system, the design achieves a balanced and attention grabbing layout. Special consideration was given towards the “fold” for this poster. The result is an effective ‘wow’ moment, in which the size contrast and closure of the header captivate a user to take a closer look.
The chosen typeface, Degular, is known for its clean and quirky twists on the neo-grotesque. This aligns with Modernist design principles employed throughout this poster. Degular’s thin and thick contrast in the Display typefaces create a unique character to the poster, providing a twist on the popular sans-serif minimalism that many younger users prefer.

The vivid green coloring emphasizes the events taking place within Golden Gate Park, creating a focal point for event specific information. Meanwhile, the white coloring, used for general information, ensures legibility and clarity, allowing viewers to easily grasp the details of each event.
Finally, an altered photo of the tiled fountain in the center of the Golden Gate Park Botanical Gardens gently guides the dense body type in an elliptical motion. The eye is drawn to the above the fold area, then guided downwards to the leftmost column. The body type bounding around the curve creates another wow moment, bringing a sense of fun to an otherwise boring and dense section of the poster.
